The short answer

Klaviyo bills email by active profiles, meaning every contact it can email, in tiers. Published plans run from $20 a month at 500 profiles to $1,955 at 150,000. Above that, Klaviyo quotes on request. Each plan includes email sends of 10 times its profile limit. Texting and Klaviyo’s AI, Composer, are priced on top. Suppressed, unsubscribed and deleted profiles aren’t billed, so suppressing people who never engage is the quickest way to lower the bill.

What Klaviyo charges for

Klaviyo prices email by the number of active profiles in your account. A profile is active if Klaviyo can email it. Suppressed, unsubscribed and deleted profiles don’t count toward your plan (Klaviyo: active profile management).

Your plan sets two limits: how many active profiles you can have, and how many emails you can send in a month, which is 10 times the profile limit. A 5,000-profile plan, for example, includes 50,000 emails a month. If your active profiles grow past your plan, Klaviyo moves you up to the next plan at your next billing cycle (Klaviyo: upgrade preferences).

Texting (SMS and MMS) and Composer, Klaviyo’s AI marketing agent, are separate products with their own prices.

Klaviyo’s email plans, tier by tier

These are Klaviyo’s published list prices for email. The Amy column is what the same number of emails costs at Amy’s published rates, assuming you send every email the Klaviyo plan allows.

Klaviyo’s published list prices from klaviyo.com/pricing, read August 30, 2026. Amy’s column uses Amy’s published rates at the same monthly email volume: $10 including 2,000 emails, then $0.90 per 1,000. Email only. Above 150,000 profiles, Klaviyo quotes on request.

* The biggest gap on Klaviyo’s published list is at 13,500 profiles: $325 against $129.70, or 60% less. Every row assumes you send Klaviyo’s full allowance, which is Amy’s most expensive case. Compare with your own bill.

Where the price jumps

The ladder doesn’t climb evenly. From 10,000 to 13,500 profiles, every 500 more contacts adds $25 a month, so the price goes from $150 to $325. From 15,000 to 20,000 profiles it adds just $25 in total. A list that grows past 10,000 contacts can raise the bill sharply even if you send the same number of emails, because you pay for profiles, not sends.

Klaviyo’s free plan

Klaviyo is free up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, with email support for the first 60 days. Past 250 profiles you need a paid plan, starting at $20 a month for 500 profiles (Klaviyo: free and paid plans).

Klaviyo SMS pricing

Texting is an add-on on top of your email plan. Since July 2026 it’s sold as a monthly spend commitment, where you pre-commit a dollar amount each month (Klaviyo: mobile messaging update). For US toll-free numbers, Klaviyo’s published prices are:

Klaviyo’s US toll-free prices from klaviyo.com/pricing, read August 30, 2026, plus carrier fees. Amy’s column is $0.009 per 160-character segment, with no separate carrier fees and nothing to pre-commit. Klaviyo counts sends and Amy counts segments, so a long text that splits in two costs two segments on Amy.

1,000 texts a month $15 $9.00
5,000 texts a month $70 $45.00

20,000 texts a month $240 $180.00

Klaviyo AI (Composer) pricing

Composer is sold in monthly credits: $20 for 2,000, $99 for 10,000 and $157 for 16,000 at list price, with an introductory discount running when we read it. On Amy there are no credits: writing your campaigns and automations is the $10 a month.

How to lower your Klaviyo bill

Suppress profiles that never engage, check whether that drops you below a tier line, then change your plan, because Klaviyo doesn’t step you down on its own. Size your texting commitment to what you actually send, and cancel add-ons you don’t use. The full walkthrough is in how to lower your Klaviyo bill.

Klaviyo or Amy?

Klaviyo is the better choice if you need branching journeys, deep custom segments, A/B tests you design yourself or hundreds of integrations. Amy is for stores that want campaigns and automations written, tested and sent for them, and would rather pay for what they send than for the size of their list: $10 a month including 2,000 emails and your sending number, then $0.90 per 1,000 emails and $0.009 per text segment. Contacts are never billed. See the full comparison, or compare every Klaviyo alternative.

Questions

How much does Klaviyo cost per month?

Klaviyo’s published email plans start at $20 a month for 500 active profiles and reach $1,955 a month at 150,000 profiles. Above that, Klaviyo quotes on request. Texting and AI cost extra. These are list prices read from klaviyo.com/pricing on August 30, 2026.

Is Klaviyo free?

Up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, yes. Past that you need a paid plan, starting at $20 a month for 500 profiles.

What is an active profile in Klaviyo?

A profile Klaviyo can email. Klaviyo bills on active profiles, and suppressed, unsubscribed and deleted profiles don’t count toward your plan.

How much does Klaviyo SMS cost?

Texting is an add-on sold as a monthly spend commitment. For US toll-free numbers Klaviyo lists $15 a month for 1,000 sends, $70 for 5,000, $125 for 10,000 and $240 for 20,000, plus carrier fees.

Why did my Klaviyo bill go up?

Usually because your active profiles grew past your plan. Klaviyo moves you to the next plan at your next billing cycle, whether or not you sent more email, because it bills on profiles, not sends.

How do I lower my Klaviyo bill?

Suppress profiles that never engage, since Klaviyo doesn’t bill suppressed profiles, then change to the lower plan yourself, because Klaviyo doesn’t step you down on its own unless auto-downgrade is on. Also size your texting commitment to what you send and cancel add-ons you don’t use.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Klaviyo?

Amy bills for the messages you send instead of the contacts you store: $10 a month including 2,000 emails, then $0.90 per 1,000, and contacts are never billed. On Klaviyo’s own published rates that’s up to 60% less for the same email volume.
