Klaviyo charges per contact.
Amy charges per send.
You pay for the emails you send, not the size of your list.

Klaviyo
You write the emails, build the flows, schedule campaigns, run the tests and watch your deliverability. It’s powerful, with a learning curve to match.
Amy
12 automations come already written from your catalog. Read each one, then turn it on. There’s no builder to learn. All 12 can send texts too, and texting stays off for each one until you turn it on. Campaigns always need your approval.
Side by side.
| What it takes | Amy | Klaviyo |
|---|---|---|
| Writing the emails & texts | Amy writes every automation from your catalog. You read it, edit if you like, send yourself a test, then turn it on. | You (or your agency) write and build each one. |
| Getting started | 12 automations come already written for your store. Each starts switched off and runs on its own once you turn it on. | A blank flow canvas and a template library. |
| Compliance | Consent checks, one-click unsubscribe, texting quiet hours, STOP handling, suppression and a check for risky claims, on every send. | The controls are there, but setting them up is on you. |
| Deliverability | Automatic warm-up on your own authenticated domain, growing with what you send. Sending pauses on its own if bounces or spam complaints climb. | Tools and docs are provided, but warm-up and monitoring are your job. |
| Testing | Amy tests four popup styles and three subject lines on every marketing automation, and keeps the winner once it’s clearly ahead. | A/B tests you set up, monitor and call yourself. |
| Offers | You choose which offers Amy can use, and every campaign includes one, using your live Shopify codes or new ones she creates. You can also reward orders with store credit only that customer can use. | Coupon codes you create in Shopify and place in each flow. |
| Switching | Your list comes over with consent and unsubscribes intact. You move automations over one at a time, so a customer never gets the same email from both. | Not applicable. It’s the platform you’d be leaving. |
| Learning curve | If you can read an email and flip a switch, you can run Amy. | A full platform to learn. Many stores hire a specialist or agency. |
| Billed for | Messages sent. $10/month including 2,000 emails and your number, then $0.90 per 1,000 emails and $0.009 per text segment. Contacts are never billed. | Active profiles, in tiers, whether you email them or not. Each plan caps sends at 10x its profile limit. Email and SMS are priced separately. |
| Segmentation | 14 ready-made audiences. No rule builder. | A full segment builder with deep conditional logic. |
| Best for | Store owners who want the revenue without becoming email marketers. | Teams with dedicated marketers who want full control. |

* Where the 60% comes from. The biggest gap on Klaviyo’s published price list is the 13,500-profile row above: $325 against $129.70, or 60% less. The smallest gap is 31%, at 150,000 profiles. Every row compares Klaviyo’s list price with Amy’s published rates at the same monthly email volume. Your savings depend on how much you send, and the calculator below works it out.
Amy’s column assumes you use Klaviyo’s full allowance, 10 emails to every profile. Almost nobody sends that much, and in a quieter month Amy costs less while Klaviyo costs the same. Texting and AI are compared below.
Texting
- Klaviyo
- An add-on. Since July 2026 it’s a monthly spend commitment: you pre-commit a dollar amount. US toll-free is quoted at $125 a month for 10,000 sends, plus carrier fees.
- Amy
- $0.009 a segment, or $90 for the same 10,000, billed on what you actually send. No separate carrier fees and nothing to pre-commit.
Klaviyo counts sends and Amy counts 160-character segments, so a long text that splits in two costs two segments on Amy.
AI writing
- Klaviyo
- Composer, sold in credits: $99 a month for 10,000 at list, $157 for 16,000. Check current pricing, since they run discounts.
- Amy
- Included in the $10. Writing from your catalog is what Amy does, so there are no credits to buy.
Compare with your current bill
Add what you pay for software, plus whoever runs it for you if that isn’t you.
An agency retainer, a freelancer, or the part of someone’s salary spent on email. Leave it at zero if that’s you.
Your list size isn’t an input, because Amy doesn’t bill for it.
Klaviyo bills for every profile you store: email 8,000 people on a 40,000-person list and you pay for 40,000. Amy bills for the emails you send, so a quiet month costs less.

When Klaviyo is the better tool.
If you need branching journeys, deep custom segments, A/B tests you design yourself or hundreds of integrations, Klaviyo is the better choice. Amy doesn’t do those.
Switch with one Klaviyo key.
No CSV exports. Your consent records and unsubscribes come with your list, and you move automations over one at a time, so no customer gets the same email from both.
Connect a read-only key
Amy reads your profiles, lists, segments and metrics. The key is encrypted, and nothing is ever written back to Klaviyo.
Bring your audience over
Consent, unsubscribes and suppressions all come over. Anything Amy can’t read is treated as do-not-send.
Start with your engaged customers
Your first sends go to people who opened or clicked in Klaviyo in the last 120 days. Amy sets up DKIM and SPF and leaves your existing DNS alone.
